So lets here what tape decks everyone has?
To start this thread off, I have a Kenwood KX-W8010 and the newer brother to that one the KX-W8020. Both dual wells.
But the KX-W8020 needs I guess the heads to be de-magnitized because when a tape is playing I hear a very loud hiss in the background. I don't hear it with my KX-W8010.
But anyway, enough about my decks problem, lets here what decks ya'll have?

Someone recently gave me a Pioneer CT-F2121 cassette deck along with the purchase of a Pioneer SX-1250 Receiver. I replaced the belts in the cassette recorder, but has a week fast forward and rewind due to idler tires needing replaced which i don't have at the moment..

Well, I have been a bit of a gear hound. I cannot pass anything up with VU meters:( So in order of purchase
JVC W-106 bought new/closeout dual deck, and a workhorse
Technics RS-M18 my first vinatge deck. will need belts, has flourencent meters.
Pioneer CT-F7272, large VU meters, put new belts in but needs to have the PITA belt replaced which I have not had time to do yet.
Nakamichi CR-2A, nice deck that needed very little to get going.
Nakamichi 480, VU meters and with new belts sounds great
Akai CS-M3 one channel out but large VU meters. Someday
Onkyo 2060. VU meters and 3 head with 2 motors. It sounds great.
Aiwa M600 - Large VU meters, needs belts.
Teac A350 A 1971 top loader deck that has worked great from the beginning, with of course VU meters.
Teac A450 from 1973. It needs belts but looks great;)
Yikes, I didn't realize I had 10 decks:o

A nice JVC KD-D10, sounds great. And a wrecked Marantz 5010B, I don't think it can be saved. Don't listen to that much tape anyway.

I listen to mostly vinyl right now. But in the past several months I've come across 25-30 brand new blank tape, TDK SA-90 and Maxell XLII so I need to go back in time to my youth and start making mixed tapes :D

I use to do that when I was little kermit. Except I had one of those little recordable radios with the cassette deck and the microphone, and I use to go around and tapes all the time.

I'm surprise at the digital age we're in Walmart, Family Dollar Walgreens and other stores still sells blank cassette tapes.

Yeah your right. You can go into Walmart or Walgreens and get a pack of 2 Maxell blank tapes for like a dollar. It may be more at other stores I don't know.
The only thing is I wished they still made metal or chrome tapes still. They had very good sound and could last for a long time!

super deck:), not bad photography too:D. I like those three head machines. Are you still using it?
I use mine as much or more than my CD unit:D, Chuck (a lot of the reason is 20 cent pre-recorded tapes, but I do like the warmer (less harsh) sound.

my collection is a piddly drop-in-the-bucket
compared to the REAL Compact Cassette freaks
over at WWW.TAPEHEADS.COM
i was once a member there, in fact, one of the very first,
but me and the owner/founder/admin did not see
eye-to-eye on some things, so i was eventually banned.
him and me learned a few things as a result, though,
so perhaps, in time, we'll be able to get over and let bygones-be-bygones, and he'll allow me to rejoin.
we'll see...

Recently came across a Marantz 5420 at an estate sale for $45, and just got it back from my tech guy. Have wanted one of these since they came out in the '70s. Only two heads, but comes with a mini mixboard that has two panpots. No photo yet, but here's what it looked like in the original magazine ad:

which was a superb deck that I bought back in the 60's but hated the violent eject (very early deck.....wanted to throw the cassettes at you when it was thru!:D

I love this deck for the wrong reasons, it's reversible. I couldn't live without the extended play, now that I'm spoiled.......it sounds as good as my Technics top load too!:D

I usually buy pre-recorded but if I see any new in wrap type II or better I snap them up. My highs are 50 cts, low 5/$1 where I normally thrift.:)

I have a 1976 CT-F8282 as my main CT player on my rack. On reserve I have a newer JVC KD-V400 unit that is one helluva Tape deck, although my CT-F8282 sounds smoother to me for some odd reason, and I prefer the analog Vue meters. Could be that it was pretty much in its orig box wrapped in factory plastic since new.

There is real quality (mechanical and electronic) in some of the 70's vintage gear. The Pioneer has deservedly made itself 'king of your hill'! Reward it by loving maintenance to keep it there. There is no way the lightweight pieces that followed will do as well.
A good example is a new Fisher that I picked up.
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q83/pbidaho/DSCF3629.jpg
Sounds great but is not built for the long hall. All of my 'Tanknics' weigh (3) times as much for their size and for good reason.:)

Here's my CT-F8282 Pioneer Beauty. It's about the most mint you will ever see. Plays as the day it was new too! So smooth & quiet. I found this 5 years ago still in it's orig box, never even taken out of the factory plastic! I had not taken it out until last year. Only logged about 3 hours play time sofar.

Ive had bunches of tape decks and recorders. Here are some pictures of the ones I have hooked up right now, but I have even more stored away. http://img241.imagevenue.com/loc114/th_31000_DSC00857_122_114lo.JPG (http://img241.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=31000_DSC00857_122_114lo.JPG)

This is my first time posting here, so sorry if it looks a little unorganised. Anyway, click on a thumbnail to see a larger picture. The Fisher is a beautiful little unit from the early 70s. Its a top loader and is very heavy! It works like shit, though. Sound quality is lacking and pitch is not at standerd speed. The grey unit is my Sharp tape deck. I have 2 of these and they are EXCELLENT. The sound quality is great, and they have 2 microphone inputs, which is real nice. One thing I noticed about the tape decks of the 90s and beyond was that they were often lacking mic inputs, whcih was always a major drawback, and why my newer, black, double deck systems are collecting dust rather than in use! They just dont make them like they used to! And I dont think there making them at all, now!
One other note, i want to add. The buttons on both of these decks stick out and you press them down. These kinds of buttons are also WAY nicer than the little ones on the newer units that you just lightly press. When using this kind, you really have more control.

Is yours from the Napa Valley Box Company also? Mine says it on the right side of it.

Nice find :) I have a CT-F7272 that I got a couple of years bacl. Got new belts for it and it does sound good. The vinyl is pealing however. I picked up a CT-F 900 recently that needs belts, so that will be my new top Pioneer soon :)
