"This is a near mint and perfect working condition SL-HF750. If you're looking at this auction then you already know all of the features of this amazing dream machine! Original retail in '86 was around $1200-$1400. The unit works exceptionally well and has no issues. The linear skate loading system is working smoothly and quietly. The unit comes ready to go with the original remote, copy of the manual, 1 new set of gold A/V cables and 3 beta tapes to demonstrate all features and working condition. This would be a perfect gift for a true Beta collector/enthusiast or those with a serious need for a professional quality Super Beta capable of all 3 beta speeds."

I found one of those at thrift shop recently... Unfortunately it doesn't power fully. The mechanical parts don't do anything, nor does the power light come on when press, but does power the display etc..

ah, so, in the typical SONY fashion,
these units have a high failure rate?

there is the 1990 model SONY SLV-R5UC S-VHS.
a fairly impressive looking unit, in that typical SONY
way, but today, you'll be lucky to find an example
anywhere that doesn't suffer from a dead, faulty
power supply...

I defiantly would like to get it fixed... These are the one of the very few that records in BI speed.. And I don't have another that does.. Out of all the years I've been collecting beta, I've never experienced a BI recorded tape...

My SL-HF600 used to have the exact same problem (display turned on, buttons worked, but VCR mechanism and tuner were completely dead; no power LED). The STK5441 voltage regulator IC in the power supply was bad. I'm not sure how similar/different the power supply is in the HF750, but if it also contains an STK5441, then that will most likely be the faulty component. The STK5441 has since been replaced with the NTE1734, which works just fine.

EDIT: You might want to check the fuses in the power supply as well.
