My First 8-track Recorder

I remember going into thrift shops in the 1980s and picked one of these up

I used it to record off the radio back in the early 1990s. I must say radio shack to make some quality stuff back then.

Thats a very nice looking unit. I have played with the idea of adding an 8-track to my already large collection of gear. huummmm:cool:

If you're looking for one, I heard Akai is a good make, tho I've never experienced having one, I've seen them go on eBay for quite a good penny.

Akai does make some good stuff. I have an Akai cassette deck that I need to get some belts for. Its a heavy unit with wood sides. Its built like a tank. My girlfriends step mother is into 8-tracks, though I don't know what she plays them on. My dad back in the mid 70's bought an 8-track/AM FM tuner (Audiovox) for the family car. I told him that cassettes were cooler. He told me they would never go anywhere:rolleyes: IN the late 70's, take the car on a date was a bit embarrasing:o Having to pull out one of the only 8-tracks I had, The Partridge Family, pretty much molded my life as a looser:D

That's so funny! Unsure how old you are Kermit Z, but that's an awesome story! Was it a country squire station wagon by chance?
