I am getting close to getting all my systems set up in the new place. My sound room is looking great but I have not been able to enjoy it much yet with all the unpacking and cleaning of the old apartment. I hooked up a system in the loft where the computer is. My Pioneer SX-780 with my Philips 312 turntable and a Sony CD carousel. I had a small JBL powered sub that I had been using with my home theater system. It is a bit of overkill since I have been running some Bose 701 towers that produce some pretty nice base on their own. The have 2 8" woofers in each cabinet along with a mid and 2 tweets. The 701 is also ported. Anyway, I decided to give my KLH Model Seventeens some help in the bass area so I hooked up the powered sub to the SX-780. Its only 80 watts and an 8" woofer but OMG!! That thing sound great now. I'm listening to some Pink Floyd "The Wall" and the floor is shaking:eek: Sweet. So if bass is shy with what your running, try a sub. :)

Adam, my sub has hook ups for both low level and high level. The low level is an RCA attachment that goes into the sub from the sub line from the HT receiver. The SX-780, of course does not have this. But the High level attachment on the powered sub is like regular speaker attachmenst on a receiver/amp. They are spring loaded, so I go from the receiver into the input on the sub, then from the output to the speakers. I'll post up some photos shortly (Once I figure out where I packed the camera )

Oh gotcha. Speaking of SX Pioneers, there's a SX-1050 on craigslist in the next county over from me, they want $250 for it... They mention the wood cover being in a little bit of rough shape, but the front is almost in mint..

Looking at closed EBay auctions, that price is about right for that unit.

Great setup and equipment you have there.. It's coming along great. I didn't know if you owned a reel to reel or not...

Yeah, I got an R2R too. It has developed an issue when trying to record. I believe it is due to some old tapes I was trying to run that may have shredded and messed up the recording heads. Once I get settled in I will have to check that out. It sounds great though:)

I'm about to build a sealed sub with the Dayton Classic 15" subwoofer driver and a Dayton 240W amp. 4.8 cu. ft. box and it's flat down to 30Hz. Should fill in the bottom end quite nicely with my Fisher 800C/Pioneer CS77A combo.

I have not been big into Subwoofers to be honest. I had picked up the JBL back in 1997 and its been doing HT service. But, it seemed to be taking up room in that roll. But now I regret not trying it on my 2 channel system sooner. It really does make my SX-780 sound like a much more powerful system. My next goal is to build one. JT keep us in the loop on your build. It sound like you will be breaking windows soon:D
