I usually buy pre-recorded but if I see any new in wrap type II or better I snap them up. My highs are 50 cts, low 5/$1 where I normally thrift.

I have a 1976 CT-F8282 as my main CT player on my rack. On reserve I have a newer JVC KD-V400 unit that is one helluva Tape deck, although my CT-F8282 sounds smoother to me for some odd reason, and I prefer the analog Vue meters. Could be that it was pretty much in its orig box wrapped in factory plastic since new.

There is real quality (mechanical and electronic) in some of the 70's vintage gear. The Pioneer has deservedly made itself 'king of your hill'! Reward it by loving maintenance to keep it there. There is no way the lightweight pieces that followed will do as well.
A good example is a new Fisher that I picked up. ![]() Sounds great but is not built for the long hall. All of my 'Tanknics' weigh (3) times as much for their size and for good reason.

Here's my CT-F8282 Pioneer Beauty. It's about the most mint you will ever see. Plays as the day it was new too! So smooth & quiet. I found this 5 years ago still in it's orig box, never even taken out of the factory plastic! I had not taken it out until last year. Only logged about 3 hours play time sofar.

Ive had bunches of tape decks and recorders. Here are some pictures of the ones I have hooked up right now, but I have even more stored away. [IMG]
[IMG] This is my first time posting here, so sorry if it looks a little unorganised. Anyway, click on a thumbnail to see a larger picture. The Fisher is a beautiful little unit from the early 70s. Its a top loader and is very heavy! It works like shit, though. Sound quality is lacking and pitch is not at standerd speed. The grey unit is my Sharp tape deck. I have 2 of these and they are EXCELLENT. The sound quality is great, and they have 2 microphone inputs, which is real nice. One thing I noticed about the tape decks of the 90s and beyond was that they were often lacking mic inputs, whcih was always a major drawback, and why my newer, black, double deck systems are collecting dust rather than in use! They just dont make them like they used to! And I dont think there making them at all, now! One other note, i want to add. The buttons on both of these decks stick out and you press them down. These kinds of buttons are also WAY nicer than the little ones on the newer units that you just lightly press. When using this kind, you really have more control. I have one of those cassette racks just like yours on the left!
Is yours from the Napa Valley Box Company also? Mine says it on the right side of it. |

I have a CT-F7272 that I got a couple of years bacl. Got new belts for it and it does sound good. The vinyl is pealing however. I picked up a CT-F 900 recently that needs belts, so that will be my new top Pioneer soon
