Since 1953 Harman Kardon has been manufacturing audio equipment, in fact there first product was an FM tuner, in 1954 they manufactured the first receiver (Festival D1000) than in 1958 the worlds first stereo receiver, (Festival TA230). and the worlds first cassette deck with Dolby B type noise reduction in 1970 (CAD5) in 1981 Harman Kardon debuts the first cassette with Dolby HX processing for increased headroom and extended high frequency response (HK705). You can still tell a Harman Kardon receiver without reading the label.
